Riki KitagawaCEO/ Co-Founder Hotaru Co.
Riki Kitagawa continued to develop his research into water through technical college, university, and graduate school. Kitagawa has extensive specialized knowledge in a range of water-related matters from water processing techniques to the planning of waterworks and sewage systems. He received an award for his Masters research project, in which he examined the financial challenges related to Japanese sewage systems in an era of the shrinking population. In 2014, he co-founded Hotaru Co. and developed an alternative to large-scale concentrated sewage infrastructure: a compact and personal water recycling system that an individual can own. Kitagawa’s vision is to achieve “water freedom”: the freedom to be able to live anywhere, even in locations with poor water infrastructure, through personalized water treatment. In 2016, Kitagawa was a panelist at a South by Southwest (SXSW) conference, worked on a DJ booth and a shower-based installation at the Burning Man Festival. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Tokyo.
I graduated from the Department of English Studies, Faculty of Foreign Languages at Sophia University in 1982, and started work at CASIO that same year. In my first 27 years with the company, I was involved in overseas sales of cash registers and other system products; I also experienced overseas assignment in Australia and in the U.S.A. Since 2009, I have worked upon compliance-related issues such as security trade control, before taking up my current position in 2011. My aim has been to ensure that respect for human rights becomes permanently established as a core element in CASIO’s corporate culture, while making use of the specially-developed “Human Rights Check Tool” to build an effective framework for human rights due diligence, and focusing on the formulation of the “Casio Group Basic Policy on Respect for Human Rights.” Over the last few years, I have been working on the cultivation of CSR core talent, with the appointment of over 100 “CSR Leaders” in every division, and using a bottom-up approach to strengthen CSR literacy within the CASIO Group.
