Yuriko Koike
Yuriko Koike was inaugurated as Governor of Tokyo in August 2016. Koike served as Minister of the Environment from 2003 to 2006. Later she held two other cabinet posts- Special Advisor to the Prime Minister for National Security Affairs, appointed in 2006, and Japan’s first female Defense Minister, in July 2007. In 2008, she run for the head of Japan’s ruling party, which brings the prime ministership, as the first female candidate. After graduated from Cairo University, Koike began her journalistic career as a TV personality. She has written books and articles on Japanese politics and international affairs.
