Many regional cities are facing mounting social problems associated with the decreasing birthrate, aging population, and the outflow of young people. Amid these circumstances, Japan has embarked on a nationwide effort to achieve regional vitalization. Tourism, being one of Japan’s few growth markets, has the potential to contribute toward this goal by creating employment opportunities in regional areas. Efforts are now underway within the industry to create profit-making business projects that can contribute toward the resolution of the social problems affecting regional areas.
In this session, the speakers will introduce cutting-edge business projects to illustrate how companies, while developing their business at home and abroad, can simultaneously engage in local issues and pursue open innovation with a view to generating new value for the region.
